Belfast City of Sanctuary Annual General Meeting at Skainos Centre, Belfast.
While the serious business to elect office bearers and committee was done, there was fun too with music, dance and food.
Following welcome from our Chair, Mehrshad Esfandiari, we had a greeting from Dr Inderjit Bhogal, the founder of City of Sanctuary
throughout the UK and Ireland. He and his family were themselves refugees.
Then it was time for music from Iran and Ireland. We learnt about the different instruments from both countries.
Our achievements during the past year were highlighted.
There was plenty of time to engage with each other. That’s always an important element of occasions such as this morning’s. And there was dancing to traditional Irish music.
Don’t forget about our annual Great Refugee Picnic which this year is being held at Ulidia Playing Fields, off the Ormeau Road from 1pm to 5pm on Sat 24th June 2023. Everyone is welcome!
The theme for this year’s Refugee Week is Compassion.
