Belfast City of Sanctuary held a very successful seminar on 28th September to determine the focus and ambit of the work of making Belfast a City of Sanctuary. The Deputy Lord Mayor of Belfast launched the event, followed by a number of presentations on ‘mapping the field’ and through workshops, developing a strategy to move forward. As well as workshops and lively interactive discussions, there was input from Ireland and Scotland Coordinator Tiffy Allen, John O’Neill and Justin Kouame from the Northern Ireland Community of Refugees and Asylum Seekers, and Andy Pollak, and Tian Lloyd from City of Sanctuary Dublin. With strong commitment from schools, colleges, universities, housing associations, health services and other groups, a very positive, excellent inter-agency cooperation with Syrian resettlement and many other exciting initiatives, the way ahead is looking bright.
